THE MAGNA CARTA

Our final trip in England was a quick visit to Cornwall to see the Eden Project. On our way however, we heard that we could see the original signed document of the Magna Carta, located in the Salisbury Cathedral.

Salisbury's copy of the Magna Carta is the best preserved of the four remaining original exemplars. The Magna Carta has come to symbolise of the rule of law in England, protecting the rights of the individual. Its basic principles have been used in the constitutions of the USA, the former USSR, Japan, Germany and many Commonwealth and other countries.
Excuse me a moment while I make a serious phone call.
Anyway...the cathedral has the tallest spire in Britain.
And is home to Europe's oldest working clock (AD1386).
Little fact: The clocks of that time had no face but would still strike on the hour.
Just some old, tattered flags from long-ago wars.
So, that was our detour. Next, on to Cornwall and the Eden Project!

  1. Very, very, very cool! I can't believe you got to see an original of the Magna Carta, and that clock is sweet. You got to see so many neat things!
